Bottom Line

Voted as Clever Hiker’s Editor’s Pick, the Mountain Summit Gear Heavy Duty Roll Top Table is an excellent choice for car camping. It traveled with us through various terrain in the Colorado Rockies, and the steel frame remains sturdy on any surface, while the aluminum slats are heat-resistant and durable enough for cooking.

We found setup was a breeze—a quick pull of the legs and a roll-out of the slatted tabletop was all it took to get it ready. Clips on each corner ensure the top stays in place.

Weighing 15 pounds, it’s light enough to carry easily in its bag from the car to the campsite, and when packed, the bag fits into most spaces. Although the height isn’t adjustable, the 28 inches worked well for most of us, who vary in height, to prep food, stage gear, or sit in chairs and enjoy a meal.

As our top pick in our gear guide, we believe the durability of this table makes it a great value for campers needing a large table at camp.

How We Tested

We spent a long winter season car camping with this table in the high desert and at the base of many mountains at various campsites around Colorado to ensure it could withstand all conditions, including snow, sand, and wind.

Stability & Durability

This Heavy Duty Roll Top Table lives up to its name. The steel frame is robust and did not move in sand or snow when we loaded it with backpacks and climbing gear. The aluminum slats will scratch, but aside from the look, they are durable and did not bend or break under the weight of our gear.

The material of this table also makes it water-resistant, helping it last even in wet conditions, which we often encountered while camping in the snow. We trusted this table’s reliability every time we took it on an adventure.

Surface Area & Weight Capacity

As one of the largest tables on the market, the surface area of the Heavy Duty Roll Top is big enough for any activity. We comfortably sat six people at once for dinner and had everything we needed for cooking within reach, including a stove, prep station, and space for drinks or condiments.

With a 70-pound weight capacity, this table can support almost anything you require, which we tested by loading it up with our climbing and backpacking gear.

Portability

Regarding this being one of the largest tables you could camp with, we were pleasantly surprised by the portability and lightness of the Heavy Duty Roll Top Table.

Weighing 15 pounds, it is lighter than other steel tables and folds down into a cylindrical bag with a handle. We had no trouble packing it into the truck with our gear and carrying it to the campsite, even if it was a bit of a walk.

Height

The Mountain Summit Gear Heavy Duty Roll Top Table doesn’t have adjustable height, but we found that its 28 inches is suitable for standing and preparing or cooking dinner.

Someone over six feet tall might not find this ideal for long periods of standing, but we had users from 5’4” to 6’ using it, and the height didn’t cause any issues. The 28 inches is also a perfect height for pulling up chairs to eat dinner, pore over maps, or play games.

Ease of Setup

The Heavy Duty Roll Top Table is easy to set up. The base pulls out smoothly and locks in seconds. The aluminum slats unroll and sit directly on the base, and all we had to do was clip the four pins on each corner into the holes of the base.

After a few setups, it took less than a minute to prepare. To break it down, the slats fold up accordion-style, and the legs fold in with a simple push from opposite ends. Just be careful not to pinch your fingers!
