Bottom Line

The Enlightened Equipment Accomplice 20‘s main advantage over bare-bones double quilts is the included pad-connection system, which gives partners more control over the seam between their sleeping surfaces. It can cost less than buying two premium solo quilts, but its bulk, price, and tendency to expose pad gaps make it a specialized choice.

The included pad connectors are an important distinction from the lighter Zpacks Twin because they help couples manage the gap where two sleeping pads meet. Even so, a double quilt requires more coordination than two separate sleep systems: a partner who rolls, pulls the covers, or sleeps at a different temperature can affect both people. The Accomplice also occupies more room as one packed item, despite dividing its carrying weight between two hikers. We would choose it for couples who camp together regularly and value a more controlled shared setup over minimum combined weight.

How We Tested

We evaluated how this two-person quilt accommodates shared sleeping pads, partner movement, warmth retention, and packed volume. We consider both the value of a shared system and the difficulty of keeping two sleepers insulated at once.

Warmth

The Accomplice’s included pad connectors help hold two sleeping pads together, addressing a draft path that solo quilts do not have. The shared shoulder opening still requires both sleepers to manage coverage when they shift.

This system makes the most sense for partners who expect similar overnight temperatures. Couples who routinely sleep at different temperatures may find two independent quilts more dependable in cold weather.

Warmth Score: 2.7/5.0

Comfort

Sharing a single quilt eliminates duplicate shells and footboxes, and the Accomplice has enough shared coverage for two sleepers who are comfortable close together.

The compromise is independent control: one partner cannot vent or tighten the quilt without changing the other’s coverage. Couples with different sleeping positions or bedtimes should try a shared system on a short trip before committing.

Comfort Score: 3.0/5.0

Weight & Packability

At 2 lb. 5 oz., the Accomplice’s weight is a two-person total, not a number to compare directly with solo quilts. Two hikers can balance their loads by having one carry the quilt and the other carry a shared shelter.

The quilt itself remains one bulky packed item, which can be difficult to fit in a small pack. The lighter Zpacks Twin saves substantial weight but gives up the Accomplice’s built-in pad connectors.

Weight & Packability Score: 2.0/5.0

Features

Pad connectors are the Accomplice’s most useful feature because they address the gap between two separate pads. They are a meaningful advantage over the stripped-down Twin rather than an accessory included just for convenience.

Buyers can choose a stock model or a custom configuration. Stock availability favors hikers leaving soon; customization is worth the potential wait when specific dimensions or options are important.

Features Score: 3.7/5.0

Should You Buy the Enlightened Equipment Accomplice 20?

Choose the Accomplice if you regularly camp with the same partner and value its attachment details. The Zpacks 20F Twin is far lighter and less costly, but lacks pad straps and a neckline draft baffle.

What Other Backpacking Quilts Should You Consider?

Zpacks 20F Twin Quilt Review: At $579 and 1 lb. 11.9 oz., the Twin is cheaper and far lighter than the Accomplice. That makes it attractive for partners pursuing a minimalist shared kit, but it lacks pad straps and a neck baffle. Our testers had to reposition their pads while using the Twin; the Accomplice’s connectors directly address that problem.

REI Magma 30 Down Trail Quilt Review: Two separate Magma quilts better accommodate couples with different sleep preferences. Each sleeper gets a roomy quilt and independent ventilation in warm conditions. Carrying two quilts loses the weight-sharing appeal of one double system, and the Magma is most suitable for summer lows above the 30s.

Hammock Gear Burrow 20 Review: Two $240 Burrows cost much less than the $700 Accomplice and allow both sleepers to pick separate fits and footbox configurations. Two of our tested 1 lb. 9.1 oz. Burrows would weigh about 3 lb. 2.2 oz., considerably more than the shared quilt. For budget-minded couples who dislike shared bedding drafts, the extra weight may be acceptable.
