The XTRATUF Ankle Deck Boot is a lighter, more flexible boot for working in wet conditions. The slip-on design and waterproof construction keeps feet comfortable and dry throughout the day, even in perpetually damp environments. XTRATUF added an EVA footbed that provides cushioning and support for long-lasting comfort when wearing them for long periods. The boots also have non-marking, slip-resistant outsoles that deliver excellent traction for deck work or wet, uneven terrain. 

Although it excels in providing comfort and ease of movement, this XTRATUF boot is not built for extreme cold or rugged conditions. It also lacks the insulation and protection of heavier-duty models in our men’s rain boots guide. Overall, however, it’s a solid option for those looking for a functional and comfortable waterproof boot without the bulk.

How We Tested

We tested the XTRATUF Ankle Deck Boot over a 60-day period in wet, slippery, sloppy winter conditions and spring rains along Minnesota’s North Shore to assess comfort, waterproofing, and durability.

Weather Resistance

During a four-day drizzly storm, the XTRATUF Ankle Deck Boots proved their waterproof worth many times over. We tested the boot on lakewalk paths along Lake Superior’s shoreline and never felt even a hint of moisture. The boot’s durable rubber upper provides effective protection against water intrusion. However, the boot isn’t insulated, so it’s not the best choice for cold, snowy weather. If you’re dealing with freezing temperatures or ice, you might want a boot with more warmth and rugged protection.

Comfort

The plush comfort of this XTRATUF boot was a big hit with testers. We liked the lightweight design, and the EVA footbed added cushioning and support, preventing foot fatigue during extended walks. The boot’s flexible construction ensures a comfortable fit every time, and the slip-on design allows for easy on-and-off without sacrificing stability for active outdoor users who need a boot that moves with them. 

For casual, wet-weather use, the XTRATUF Ankle Deck Boot delivers impressive comfort.

Traction

The XTRATUF Ankle Deck Boot is made for wet, slippery surfaces with a slip-resistant, non-marking outsole that offers excellent traction. During testing, we found the traction unerringly reliable when walking on wet docks in a marina, slushy ground, and rainy paths. As its name suggests, this boot is built to fight slips on boats, docks, and nautical environments.

Warmth

Although it provides full waterproofing and comfort, the XTRATUF Ankle boot lacks insulation. In rainy or chilly but not freezing weather, the boot performs exceedingly well at keeping feet dry and comfortable. However, if you’re expecting sub-zero temperatures or need warmth in snowy conditions, you might opt for a boot with added insulation. 

It’s not designed for extreme cold. It’s designed for offshore anglers.

The XTRATUF Ankle Deck Boot is perfect for anyone looking for a lightweight, flexible, waterproof boot for wet conditions and lighter outdoor activities. Working on a boat deck, fishing, or handling other wet environments are all the more enjoyable when you don’t slip and fall. This boot also provides excellent comfort and protection without the bulk of taller, heavier boots. If you’re looking for an all-weather, insulated boot for more extreme cold, you may want to look elsewhere. However, this boot is a fantastic choice for casual, moderate outdoor use in wet conditions.
