The Merry People Bobbi Ankle Rain Boots are highly functional waterproof rain boots, but they’re also a boot for any occasion. That unicorn combination earned it a spot on our list of favorite rain boots for women. With a versatile style and lightweight design, we’re comfortable wearing these out to brunch, on a busy day of errands, or even into the office. 

The Bobbi Boots are constructed with waterproof natural rubber and a warm neoprene lining. They’ve held up in mud puddles and kept our feet toasty on chilly spring days in the Pacific Northwest. 

With decent arch support, they’re one of the more comfortable boots that we tested on extended walks, even on pavement. We also love all of the delightful color options; it was hard to choose just one!

For those doing outdoor work in inclement weather, a taller boot with burlier treads may better suit your needs. The Merry People Bobbi Ankle Boots can be worn for so many different occasions that we think it’s an exceptionally high-value, versatile boot for rain and sun alike.

Water Resistance

Merry People claims the Bobbi Ankle Boots are 100% waterproof, and we find that to be true. During a ten-minute submersion test, we didn’t experience any water leakage, even through the neoprene liner. They fit a bit tight around the ankle, which helps keep raindrops from falling in from the top. When we wear them on rainy days of errands and urban exploring, we return home each day with dry socks. 

While they’re tall for an ankle boot at seven inches, the Bobbi Boots still don’t provide quite as much protection as full-length boots, but they aren’t trying to be work boots. So, while not our top choice for working outside in severe weather, they are exceptionally weather-resistant for daily use and easy to style.

Comfort

The Merry People Bobbi Ankle Boots are one of the more comfortable boots we tested. On several long walks on pavement, we didn’t notice any chafing or hot spots. They feature decent arch support and are roomy enough that custom insoles could easily be swapped in. They were even lightweight and comfortable enough to wear on a ten-mile bike ride in Minneapolis. 

Of all of the boots we tested, these are the ones we chose to wear for airplane travel, due to their versatile style, weight, and comfort. The liner is insulated with 4mm of neoprene, making these boots perfect for rainy spring and fall weather. The liner fits snugly around the ankle. This makes them a little harder to step into, but it means there is less heel slippage once the boot is pulled into place.

Traction

While not designed for the most rugged environments, the Bobbi Boots’ outsoles have decent traction. The channels in the rubber soles are almost ¼ inch deep, thicker than some of the other style-oriented boots. 

We have yet to slip on wet pavement, rocks, or moss. The deeper traction pattern does catch moss and other debris, but this is a common issue in most shoes and boots that trek over wet surfaces. It’s just the price of admission for getting outside in the rain!

Durability

So far, the Merry People Bobbi Ankle Boots still look brand new after several months of use. We did a compression test by applying a ten-pound weight to the boots for ten minutes. This didn’t result in any cracking or creasing; the boots immediately sprang back into shape. The rubber isn’t showing any scuffing, even after hikes, walks, and bike rides. 

Each boot is hand-made with sustainable rubber, and they go through rigorous tests at each step of the production process. Merry People even offers a twelve-month warranty on these boots, so they clearly stand by the longevity of the product. Merry People recommends regularly treating the natural rubber with silicone spray to prevent it from drying out and cracking over time. 

Features

In recent years, Merry People has undergone a third-party review to assess its sustainability and environmental impact. Since 2025, they have started using natural rubber sourced by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in all boot styles, including the Bobbi Boots. For those curious to learn more, they have a transparent sustainability update on their website. Their products are also 100% vegan. 

Should You Buy the Merry People Bobbi Ankle Rain Boots?

After adding these to our testing fleet, the Bobbi Ankle Boot quickly became one of our favorites. With its classic style, lightweight design, and all-day comfort, it’s a great general footwear choice for a range of weather conditions and activities. The Bobbi Ankle Boots transition easily from dog walks in the woods to brunch in the city, making them our top choice for versatility. 

For the average urban dweller who spends a lot of time outside, the Bobbi Boots could become their go-to footwear. They’re not the most affordable option on our list, but their ability to fill many niches makes them higher value in our opinion. Those looking for a work boot in rugged conditions may want a taller boot with more traction, but the Bobbi Ankle Boots are an excellent choice for those looking for a versatile and stylish waterproof boot.

Similar to the Merry People Bobbi Ankle Boots, they can be dressed up or down for almost any occasion, are well constructed with high-quality materials, and provide solid weather protection. The neoprene liner of the Bobbi Ankle Boots makes them more solidly waterproof, but those who prefer a leather boot may still choose the Blundstone.
