LuvdBaby Toddler Carrier Backpack Review

Bottom line
The Luvdbaby Toddler Carrier Backpack makes a strong first impression. It comes loaded with accessories, including a sunshade, rain cover, diaper-changing pad, insulated pocket, dual hip-belt pockets, side mesh pockets, and an adjustable torso. That’s more included extras than most carriers at this price point, and on paper, it looks like an easy budget pick.
But in testing, the experience was more mixed. Comfort for the caregiver is decent on shorter adventures, but the thick padding traps heat, and the shoulder straps don’t provide enough support for hauling heavier kids over longer distances. More importantly, our little gear analysts were clearly uncomfortable in the seat. It didn’t reliably support an ergonomic M-position unless the stirrups were in use, and in our experience, kids don’t always keep their feet where they’re supposed to. We also ran into zippers that snagged more than we’d like, and the plastic kickstand hubs felt a bit flimsy, even though they made it through testing intact.
Still, this carrier fills a specific niche. For families who want a light- to medium-duty carrier with lots of included features for shorter day hikes, neighborhood walks, and trips around town, it offers reasonable value. But for longer hikes or more frequent use, we’d want better materials and a more comfortable design.
For families on a tight budget, the Luvdbaby Toddler Carrier Backpack is a serviceable option for short adventures. For most hikers, though, there are better baby backpack carriers in our full guide.
How We Tested
We tested the Luvdbaby Toddler Carrier Backpack on hikes through the Colorado foothills and on everyday trips ranging from neighborhood walks to grocery runs. Our testing team included analysts of different heights and builds to assess fit and adjustability, and we tested with children of different ages and sizes throughout. Every pocket, strap, buckle, and kickstand were put through regular use over several months to assess durability and real-world functionality.

Comfort
For the caregiver, the Luvdbaby Toddler Carrier Backpack is comfortable enough for shorter trips. The hipbelt is padded and load-bearing, and the shoulder straps include load lifters that help pull the pack closer to the body and transfer weight more effectively. Adjustability is a real strength. The Velcro-adjustable torso panel slides up or down to fit a wide range of heights, and our analysts found it worked well for both shorter and taller caregivers without major compromise.
The tradeoffs become more noticeable over longer wear. The thick padding feels supportive at first, but it traps heat, and we found ourselves sweating more in this carrier than in many of the others we tested. The shoulder straps have padding, but not the dense, supportive kind that makes a big difference under heavier loads. With a smaller child, that is less of an issue. Add a heavier toddler, and the drop in comfort becomes much more obvious.
The child experience was our biggest concern. Our little gear analysts were clearly uncomfortable in the seat throughout testing. Granted, some of our bougie kids are used to carriers that cost twice as much as the Luvdbaby carrier.
The cockpit alone does not provide enough support for an ergonomic M-position, so much of that responsibility falls to the stirrups. They help when kids use them, but keeping little feet in place is not always realistic. We also found it disappointing that there is no removable drool pad anywhere on the carrier. That may seem minor at first, but it is a practical feature most parents will eventually wish they had.

Features
The Luvdbaby Toddler Carrier Backpack is not short on features. With the carrier, you get a deployable sunshade, a rain cover that stows in the main compartment, a large, foldable diaper-changing pad, and an insulated pocket that keeps items warm or cold and wipes clean easily. The dual hipbelt pockets are easy to access while wearing the carrier and comfortably fit a phone and keys. There are also two side mesh pockets that can each hold a small water bottle, though our analysts could not reach them while wearing the pack, which limits their usefulness on the trail.
Adjustability is also a strong point. The torso length can be changed with a velcro panel, and the cockpit includes side cinch straps to help dial in the fit for smaller children. The sunshade provides solid overhead coverage, but the side protection is limited, so kids are still exposed when the sun sits lower in the sky. The rain cover is a genuinely useful feature and one we do not often see included on carriers at this price point. On the flip side, there is no removable drool pad, which seems like a missed opportunity for a product designed for everyday family use.

Durability
This is the area where we have the biggest concerns with the Luvdbaby Toddler Carrier Backpack. The zippers often snagged during testing and felt more brittle than we’d expect from a carrier meant for regular use. We had similar hesitations about the hardware. The plastic hubs that lock the aluminum kickstand into place, along with the plastic buckle clips, felt flimsy and inspired less confidence than we wanted every time we handled them.
To be fair, none of those parts failed during our testing period. The carrier made it through intact, and the 600D and 300D ripstop polyester fabric held up well. We also did not see any premature wear in the stitching. Still, our concerns remain. The weak point here is not the carrier’s fabric body, but the hardware, which feels less durable and less trustworthy over the long haul than the rest of the design.

Storage & Organization
The Luvdbaby Toddler Carrier Backpack is built for day hikes, not long hauls. With 5 liters of storage, there is enough room for the basics: diapers, wipes, a snack, and an extra layer. The foil-lined insulated pocket is one of the more useful features in the design. It works well for a bottle or food, holds temperature reasonably well, and wipes clean easily in the field. The dual hipbelt pockets are also a nice addition, giving you quick access to a phone, keys, or other small essentials like snacks and backup snacks.
That said, not all of the storage is equally functional. The two side mesh pockets are large enough for a small water bottle, but they sit out of reach while wearing the carrier. That’s the kind of design miss we noticed right away once we hit the trail. We appreciated the included diaper-changing pad, which is a thoughtful extra and still fairly uncommon at this price point. The rain cover also stows in the main compartment, keeping it easy to grab without taking up valuable space in the outer pockets.

Weight
At 6 pounds, 4 ounces, the Luvdbaby Toddler Carrier Backpack lands near the middle of our framed carrier lineup and is actually a bit lighter than many of the more feature-rich models we tested. Some of that lower weight is likely due to the use of lighter-duty materials, which helps explain why this carrier does not feel quite as robust as some of its more established competitors. Even so, we were pleasantly surprised by its overall weight in testing.
That lower carry weight does matter in real use. When you are already hauling a 30-pound toddler, plus snacks, layers, water, and the random treasures (it’s always rocks) that kids insist on bringing along, shaving weight from the carrier itself makes a noticeable difference. A few ounces here and there start to add up quickly when the total load is already substantial. The Luvdbaby does not feel especially sleek or streamlined, but it avoids the overly bulky feel of some heavier framed carriers. For families prioritizing a lighter build for shorter hikes and everyday use, its weight is one of the stronger parts of the design.

Should You Buy the Luvdbaby Toddler CArrier Backpack?
The Luvdbaby Toddler Carrier Backpack makes the most sense for families shopping on a tight budget who want a carrier with a long list of included features. The sunshade, rain cover, diaper-changing pad, and practical storage give it solid appeal for shorter hikes, neighborhood walks, and casual use with smaller children. For light-duty use, it can get the job done.
That said, the value becomes harder to justify at its current price. In testing, we found consistent issues with child comfort, and we are not willing to gloss over them in a baby carrier. The hardware also feels built to a budget, and small misses like the lack of a drool pad make the day-to-day experience less polished than we would like. For parents who plan to hike often, carry heavier toddlers, or want a carrier that will hold up for years and potentially multiple kids, we think there are better options from more established brands.
The Luvdbaby Toddler Carrier Backpack is not for parents who hike regularly, carry heavier toddlers, prioritize long-term durability, or consider excellent child comfort a non-negotiable.

What Other Baby Backpack Carriers Should You Consider?
If you want to consider other baby backpack carriers besides the Luvdbaby Toddler Carrier Backpack, there are several other excellent child carriers worth exploring in our guide to the best baby backpack carriers. Each offers unique features catering to different needs and preferences.
ClevrPlus Cross Country Review: This is the most direct budget competitor in our lineup. It is lighter, less expensive, and includes useful basics like a sunshade and stirrups. We have similar concerns about long-term build quality, and storage is more limited, but for families who only need a carrier for occasional use, it is a reasonable alternative at a lower price.
Osprey Poco SLT Review: The Poco SLT is a noticeable step up in overall quality. It is much lighter at 4 pounds, 11.5 ounces, and its stainless steel frame inspires far more confidence than the Luvdbaby’s plastic kickstand hubs. It has less storage and skips extras like a rain cover and a diaper pad, but child comfort, carry comfort, and long-term durability are all in a different league. For many families, it is worth spending more.
Deuter Kid Comfort Review: The Deuter Kid Comfort is the better choice for parents who plan to use a carrier often. It costs more, but it delivers much better comfort for both caregiver and child, a more supportive cockpit that does a far better job maintaining an ergonomic M-position, and the kind of durable construction we expect from a premium carrier. If your budget allows, this is the much stronger all-around option.
